How to Play: Cornhole Rules
Setup
-
Place the two cornhole boards facing each other, typically 27 feet apart from front edge to front edge (distance may be adjusted for younger players or limited space).
-
Divide players into two teams or play one-on-one.
-
Each team uses four bean bags.
Objective
Players take turns tossing bean bags toward the opposite board, aiming to land bags on the board or through the hole to score points.
Gameplay
-
Teams alternate throws, tossing one bag at a time.
-
All four bags from one side are thrown, then the other side throws their four bags.
-
Players may throw from either side of their board, staying behind the front edge.
Scoring
-
Bag through the hole = 3 points
-
Bag on the board = 1 point
-
Bag on the ground = 0 points
-
Scoring uses cancellation: only the team with the higher score in a round earns points equal to the difference between the two scores.
Winning the Game
-
The game continues until a team reaches 21 points.
-
For casual event play, games may be shortened or played to a lower score to keep guests rotating.
